The moon is bright and full above the desert. Moonshadows
of Joshua trees, though cool, never hint of water. So water
is the treasure, a kind word, late, only half understood.
And the secret moves off in time like the elve's ships in the
mist of the moon. And that which faintly glows whispers
to "be still," so what I cannot hold might whirl about me,
so I might feed upon it and listen--to the stars which
assemble with regard, again, and my heart out of beat with
that less constant rhythm, that funnier dance.

Here's some info. in case like me you tend to wander too far off the path...The End.
It's been 10 years since I've backpacked through the desert canyons. (TEN years? Wha...?) Sure, I've only actually backpacked through the desert twice. And both times in the same place (Grand Gulch-awesome). Still...
Here is a site (where the photo below was shamelessly stolen)-that has lots of great pictures of Grand Gulch. These photos are also available for purchase apparently.

Kind of cheesy with the girl in all the pictures (only because I don't know her and perhaps I'm jealous). AND I'm not sure if this group obeys all the rules of preservation (I don't really know what the rules are--but I do try to be careful when exploring).
Now I'm a hypocrite. Coming to mind is all that ancient soil-crust a fellow hiker and I trampled through --when we got off course-- climbing out of Subway last September...that was lame. With each defiling footprint I felt more and more guilty. Not to mention kind of stupid. It wasn't a hard trail to follow . Anyway...

I LOVE Grand Gulch! I hiked through there one time with my brother over spring break. I also miss the desert. We haven't been since our kiddos started arriving. (sigh)
