I love putting sunscreen on my childrens' faces. They squint their eyes shut and tilt their heads upward toward me. Sometimes they hold their breath and puff out their cheeks a little.
A trivial task and yet, in the process, I find myself admiring the wonder of their winsome foreheads, cheeks, noses. My thumb brushes across pink precious mouths. I take greater care around their shiny lids and I realize, these are my jewels. I finish the everyday ritual, covering the ears and the necks of those who are the treasure and bounty of my life.
I take my time. I love the fact that they think I'm just trying to thoroughly prevent sunburn. What I'm really doing, is saying Thank You in my heart. For him. For her. For my life. What I'm doing- as my hands briefly cup small faces- is trying once again, to memorize them as they are in this moment.

You are awesome how you look at something that sometimes can be a pain and look at the positive. I absolutely love you!
so beautifully said. So wise to savor those ordinary moments...
I love that. What a nice way to look at them!
i love your last thought to memorize the moment. i find myself trying to memorize the simple moments of the day, especially while my kids are all around me. it's so easy to get going in the business of life and not treasure these "sunscreen on the face" moments. Love this post.Thanks.
Sweet!
