Day 6....

I am posting some lyrics to the first song I ever wrote (or at least the first song I finished...)

I just don't have time to work on any writing today. I'm singing at a funeral tomorrow for a friend of mine. Her mother passed away, and she's asked me to sing. She has never actually heard me play or sing, so I'm really anxious to not make her sorry she asked. Luckily, I'm playing with Sam and he's amazing. Still, I'm nervous, so I've been practicing like crazy.

Sam offered to let me post one of HIS poems as one of my own. But then there'd be an onslaught of effusive compliments and praise at my new found genius, which would then reinforce my insecurities to the point of perpetual silence; in poetry, in speaking, in blogging or any other form of communication.

Competitive? Me? Na. Here's the song:

(For now let's call this song) My Face

The sky turned everything blue today,
I saw it with my own eyes.
You laughed when I said this, as I lay there
In the crook of your arm.

We were being lazy, and I dare say
You were content. Though I know
It's not your way, still you gave
Me your time. You always do,
That's why I love you, and

CHORUS (1):
Now when I see your face,
I see my face.
When you looked in my eyes
And poured out your soul
You filled in every hole.

Do you remember when
That man that we love
Said to no one,
In particular?

CHORUS (2):
Hey I figured it out,
This life, what it means.
It's about relations
About the exchange
Between you and me.

Here I am laying down again,
You are by my side.
I'm cheek to cheek with the newest creation
Because of you,
I am born today and I have new
Reason to live, to love, to give
Everything I am. And what I don't know,
I'm gonna find out for you,
If I can, 'cause

Repeat CHORUS (1)

Do you remember
When that man that we love
Held you close and said to you:

Repeat CHORUS (2)

Her eyes bore everything true that day,
Hand in hand, side by side. Walking
Circles, with the mother of my mother of my
Mother. And now I know,
She worked so hard and loved so hard,
All in the name of being good.
Revealing all that was left undone, she said to me
"Just forget the shoulds."

And now when I see my own face
I see her face.
When she looked in my eyes she bore her soul
and it filled every hole.

Do you remember when that man that we love
Said to anyone who'd listen now

Repeat CHORUS (2)

And don't you know
Nothing else matters.
You get lost along the way.
You have to lose your life,
Got to love somebody
If you want to be saved.

Now I've seen my place,
It's standing there lookin' at me,
Right there in your face.

Repeat CHORUS (2)
:::End:::

Whew. Long song. Especially when you include the the seven minute instrumental, where I rip up the guitar like nobody's business... (mmm, hm).

I would LOVE to hear you sing that sometime. The words are great...I can only imagine the music!

I couldn't do something like that to save my life. You've always been such a talent. Should hardship find you destitute with nothing to rely on but the circus, They'll take me along because of you, but despite that they will work us. You'll be the star upon the stage, around your neck a wreath, but as for me, the lion's cage- my crown 'tween eager teeth.

above, beneath, and round about the patterns are menacing birds. Circus, work us, purpose, jerk-us in note, in thought, in words.

It's crystal clear to all who reads I like to use cliche. Perhaps I'll try my hand at stringing beads made of paper mache.
