Final Poem. But first, the news;Did you know that idlest is an actual word? A title, in fact? (says me). And I can say that, because it takes one to know one.
Also, I went to see 'A Prairie Home Companion' up at Red Butte Gardens last night. LOVED it. I discovered this wonderful radio show a couple of years ago... (word to the Bastian's, and a little shout out to all those like-minded KUER fans, who appreciate the nostalgia of the good ol' days. At least, I'm assuming that's why you were there? Who knows, maybe your Minnesota born Gammlemor sent you tickets as a birthday present). Anyway, the show was delightful. And a little more risqué than I've ever noticed before (maybe a special PG 13 show for MormonLand?).
My favorite was the intermission that went like this:
Garrison Kiellor recited a poem about the delight of relieving one's own bladder (very effective, I must say). And then came out onto the grass and led everybody into music and singing together. How majorly cool IS that? "America the Beautiful" "Home on the Range" and I think some Beatles tunes, too (I was catching up with old friends at the time).
Okay, if you can't tell, I'm just feeling downright giddy. Know why? MY POETRY CHALLENGE IS OVER!
LAST WEEK'S CHALLENGE: UPDATE
This was HARD. I had a notebook in hand, pens in my hair and scribbling all week. I was embarrassed by my paltry offerings - thankfully, many of you were encouraging and kind, and I REALLY appreciate it. I loved hearing other people's interpretations about the poems. All in all - a very good challenge: Totally out of my comfort zone. Required me to stretch and finish something I started. The hardest part was posting something I new wasn't "perfect" yet, but I was out of time. But in the end, that was a good thing. I'd NEVER finish anything setting that kind of standard. A perfect WW challenge. Except, I've ignored many other responsibilities, and now school is starting in less than a week...
So. I'm done...but not really. I want to keep writing and learning more about how to write. So I think I will pick one day a week (Monday) to post poetry or something, just to keep me at it.
(And now I have another niche-day to add to my blog)...
DAY 8
Otiose
Here is a fact about me.
To start a thing is to torrent.
To begin, is the end of me, you see,
For I can't stop the thing until I'm spent.
I started writing and then
a hundred voices came up to speak.
What could I do? I grabbed my pen,
My brain suddenly had a leak (for a week).
To play is to stay all day in a chair
Until my neck, in pain, freezes still.
Hands aching, fingers purple on the tips there,
My arms pinched, immovable.

Hands aching, fingers purple on the tips there,

To see you, is to see you only, once again.
Floodgates of memories begin to fill.
In my heart, you are dear my friend.
But you make me lose my will.
My laundry is piling,
My kids are a mess,
My bills need filing,
And I have yet to get dressed.
Yin and Yang, equal on all sides,
Perhaps by the end of life I'll see
I've balanced out my stilt-worn strides,
Made well-rounded use out of me.
Next week's challenge? I will think on it and post something definite tomorrow.
