He's been doing this since he could walk.
Once, when the twins were about four years old, we took the kids on a hike. Ada really struggles with hiking, her leg gets sore and really bothers her after a while. I think it's also frustrating for her, when she's not able to keep up with everyone else.
Sam stayed with the boys who ran the trail only stopping to climb up and down every rock and tree they could find. I stayed back with Ada, trying to convince her that we were having fun.
Jack would race ahead and then run back periodically to check on his sister. He just wanted to make sure she was okay. He would walk with her for a second and then take off again. Back and forth, back and forth. He probably covered three times the distance the rest of us had.

Yesterday Ada had a meltdown on the way home from school. Exasperated, she finally bellowed- " I just have a STUPID BRAIN! Waaaaahaaaa...and so on). Jack, in a cooing, upbeat tone replied- "Ada nobody in the world has a stupid brain. Not even you!"Ha!
I don't know if it's because they're twins, or because that's just Jackie's way. But he's a sweetie, always looking out for his sis.
It's definitely one of life's beauties (as far as I'm concerned).

Thats one of the sweetest things I have every heard
That is so sweet. I have a twin brother and sister and I have noticed that they look out for each other. Even now that they are grown and are married. Sometimes it makes me wish I had a twin.
Ahhhhh...... That is nice of Jack :o) She's going to remember all of this too.
nothing quite as lovely and inspiring as compassion. xox
