day ten: Childhood Memory

"A true friend is someone who knows all about you and likes you anyway."
 -Christi Mary Warner

I had no idea how I was going to pull today's challenge off...until I was folding laundry a few days ago.  And then I pulled it out of the dryer.

Today's photos is of a gift, given to me by my cousin Melinda, for my 15th or 16th birthday.   It's a pillowcase.

When I opened it, Nanette (my aunt) laughed and said, "it's perfect!"  "So true!" My cousin chuckled in agreement.  She found a gift that had my name all over it.

Except,

I honestly didn't get it at first.  Did they really think this described me?  Really?  I had no idea.  Somehow this piece of fabric became a mirror that showed me an aspect of my personality I was too self-absorbed to notice before.  As I considered the possibility,  I realized;

Melinda was spot on.

And I'll keep this gift forever.  Makes me laugh.  I wish I could say it shut me up (because sometimes I really should)  -- but who are we kidding?

***P.S.  Eddie saw this post and said, "Hey!  What's my pillowcase doing on there? I love that pillowcase."

Ha!

I Swear,

Spring saves my life every year.
No kidding.
Spring is on it's way and it makes me feel like this:

(except, without the head and neck pain afterward).

So I Weighed Myself the Other Day...

I'm not speaking in metaphor (that's something I would do) -- I actually stepped on a scale in order to weigh the mass of dough my body has become...and I'm going to write about it.

Superficiality ensues, you have been forewarned:

Squeezing on my stretchiest (and largest) black pants the other day,  I thought maybe I should take a hard look at the state I'm in.

 The Sate I'm in:

Besides feeling sluggish all the time, being more flesh than force,  having to wear the same frumpy ill-fitting pair of pants every day and an aching arthritic knee - I have learned, that;

In the last 15 months I have gained an official 15 pounds ("official" meaning, "roughly").

That's not a drastic amount.  But it is a lot, when one considers what it will take to get rid of it.

It's no surprise, really.  It's not that I hadn't noticed...  It all began when I took on a big responsibility at church that, while extremely rewarding, is so very stressful for a gal like me.
Also, in the last 15 months, I have quit playing music regularly.  I hardly touch my guitar these days.  When I started to get serious about the guitar and music again a few years back, I magically lost 15 pounds (roughly) over several months.   And kept it off (roughly).  I've certainly never been the "skinny" type, but it did feel good to have that little extra weight off.

No satisfying music.
Stressful Church calling (that I do love.  love ≠ easy).
Weight gain.

Is this a Coincidence?  Heck. No.

A lame Excuse?  Um.  YES...

I'm not posting any declarations or resolutions to change, not that I don't have any goals,  I'm just not POSTING them.  So why am I even writing about this?

Because I found this while browsing on the internet the other day:

Summer 2010, A Quick Memoir...

Take a very average lady +
(what felt like) Teeming responsibilities +
Crammed into a few weeks time?

{About 4 hours.  That's how long it took me to notice...}

Now that I look back on it,  It was one of the best summers to date!

The Three Other Dishes, Plus a Joke

For Sabrena (and anyone else who was wondering):

In our house, the three other most commonly made dishes are:
* Black Beans (from the can) and Rice (topped with veggies of choice and cheese)
* Pasta with red sauce
* Quesadillas and tomato soup.

See why I didn't bother mentioning it before?  :)

And now for the joke:

WHAT DID THE GREEN GRAPE SAY TO THE PURPLE GRAPE?

"BREATHE!!!"

"Oh, You're Absolutely Fine"

OKAY.  Time to post SOMETHING.  I've left that cheesy poem (that I can't believe I posted) on the top of this page for too long.

Here is a video my friend Leah introduced me to, late in the evening while Sam was out of town last week.   Trust me, you will LOVE it.  The dancing, oh, the dancing... Don't take your eyes off the screen for one second or you will miss something good.

P.S.  Ignore the Youtuber's video title.  I believe it is, in fact, the BEST music video.  Ever.

Please enjoy:

I got lots of laughs... Here is an example:

DIAL-A-WRECK

Remember how we all loved the game "Telephone" in kindergarten? Well, add in a cake, and the fun never stops!

This order was for a "black high heel":

Dear Person Who Filled In the Blank,

This is exactly what I would have written.
